dpreview > Randy  > My Favorites > *My Personal Favorites*
These are twenty of my personal favorites at this time, and in no particular order. It's always difficult to pick out my all-time favorite images. More often than not it's the emotion I feel for a certain area that is just as important as the image itself.
They could, and probably will change at any given day. Behind each image is a story. Some are quite different from one another, and require a different mindset and approach. Some were pure luck, (Field of Dreams) (Early Morning Bite) Others were just being prepared at the right place and the right time. ~Randy~

Randy > Oneonta Gorge Entrance is a deep, narrow cleft in the basalt bluff through which flows a foaming creek. Fossilized trees caught by a lava flow, are entombed in its perpendicular walls. My wife and I camped at a nearby campground to get up early, hoping the quality of the early morning light would be perfect, as it quickly fades away. This image required some wading in cold water and climbing over a few logs. I had my shorts and tennis shoes on, wondering if this opportunity was going to be worth freezing my feet off. I reached a good perspective with the canyon walls almost touching. I shot a few frames and got back to the van as fast as I could. After we returned to our van, my cup of coffee never tasted so good!

My wife and I were vacationing in Idaho a couple of years ago. It raining so hard I could barely see the road.
We came upon a small town with a cemetery near the edge of it. My wife noticed the rainbow and excitedly told me to pull over and grab my camera. We sprinted across the field, knowing that the Rainbow wouldn't last for long.. I think I shot three or four frames before the rainbow slowly disappeared. It was a day I will always remember.
Randy > Annapolis Pier In Port Orchard

After a great pizza in downtown Port Orchard, my wife and I stopped at the Pier for a walk, and of course a photo.
Randy > A portion of Horsetail Falls framed between the trees. I'm always looking to try different compositions. I've visited the Columbia River Gorge many times, however I liked this composition the best from a day of shooting.
Randy > (Goblin's Gates on the Elwha River) This is a special place for me, as I always reflect about the Press expedition who named this portion of the Elwha River "Goblin's Gates," because some of the rock formations looked like Goblin's faces. I've read, that since that time, 1890, some of the faces have fallen into the river.

in the winter of 1889-1890. During the fall of 1889, the year Washington became a state, the Seattle Press newspaper called for "hardy citizens . . . to acquire fame by unveiling the mystery which wraps the land encircled by the snow capped Olympic range." This call was answered by James Christie, who volunteered to organize an expedition if the Press would finance it. The Press Party consisted of six men (one of them left the expedition early; five completed the trip) whom the Press described as having "an abundance of grit and manly vim," four dogs, two mules, and 1500 pounds of supplies. This group entered the Olympics in December 1889, one of the harshest and snowiest winters in the Peninsula's history.
